Design, Build & Race

F1 in Schools is an exciting national and international competition where students design, build, and race miniature Formula 1 cars. It stands as one of the most prominent and popular STEM initiatives at our school, engaging students from both the lower and upper school in entry, development, and professional levels.

Thanks to the generous support of the Parents’ Association, our school boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including a CNC router for car body construction, a wind tunnel for aerodynamic testing, and a 20-meter test track for racing the cars.

The F1 in Schools project extends beyond car construction. Students engage with industry professionals, presenting their work in concise sessions. Judges from several F1 teams offer expert opinions on the students’ design and engineering efforts. Teams demonstrate their project management skills and create impressive pit displays.

Recently, our school achieved an outstanding milestone by winning the F1 in Schools Nationals, earning the opportunity to compete at the World Finals.

Year 11 student Atticus Grummett shared, “F1 in Schools has changed my life completely. Through my role, I’ve improved both my management skills and technical ability and have truly learned what it takes to be a leader. Becoming the National Champions with our team, LEAF1, was a dream come true. This victory not only allows us to represent the UK at the World Finals but also provides our team with scholarships, valuable Formula One work experience with Williams F1 team, a pit walk at Silverstone along with tickets to watch the race and a solid foundation for our future careers”.
