Politics Talk

December 2, 2024

On Friday, The Langton welcomed back former student Nabhan Malik, who was invited by the school’s Politics Society to share his experiences as a lobbyist and provide students with a unique perspective on the workings of politics. Nabhan’s visit included an engaging discussion with Sixth Form students, where he detailed his career journey, explored the challenges and opportunities in the field of lobbying, and offered insights into how young people can make a difference in the political arena. He stressed the importance of staying informed and proactive in shaping the future.

In addition to his talk with the Politics Society, Nabhan spoke to Year 11 students, delivering a powerful and inspiring message about courage and perseverance. Drawing on the words of theologian Howard Thurman, he urged students to reflect on their passions, saying:

“Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

The session left a lasting impression on both students and staff, reinforcing the school’s commitment to fostering curiosity, resilience, and a sense of purpose in its learners.

Mr. Peto, Assistant Head Teacher (Pastoral) at The Langton, commented:

“We are incredibly grateful to Nabhan for taking the time to speak with our students. His visit not only illuminated the complexities of political systems but also encouraged our young people to pursue their dreams with courage and determination.”

The Langton continues to celebrate the achievements of its alumni while creating opportunities for current students to gain inspiration and guidance from those who once walked the same halls.  For further information, please contact Stefan Peto at speto@thelangton.kent.sch.uk or 01227 463567
