The Langton Mathematics department is excited to announce that we had our first ever research group meeting on Wednesday 15th November. 20 students from year 8, 9, 12 and 13 were invited to explore number theory (modular arithmetic and Fermat’s Little Theorem) in preparation for applications in cryptography and primality testing. We were delighted to welcome Professor Andy Hone from the University of Kent who is leading the ‘Huge Primes’ project and will be guiding us through the research as the first school to be piloting this project.
We will be meeting again next week to learn about the Diffie-Hellman key exchange, Mersenne Primes and primality tests.
